3.8 to 4.6 swap question
Okay, the car is a 96 with 3.8 v6 and the motor is out of a 97 SVT Cobra with the 4.6 v8. The 3.8 is just about ready to be pulled and the 4.6 is in shipping. The 4.6 comes with the computer and complete wiring harness. My question is will the motor mounts match up? Some one in the 3.8 forum said to purchase new ones from a dealership for around $33.00. Is this right and if so is that all we will need to finish the swap?

no you will not need new motor mounts. you will be fine. but, you will need other odds n ends. ive done the swap. you will need new exhaust system, cobra speedo cluster, cobra pcm (located next to coolant overflow resivoir), and a whole bunch of other stuff. i would have recomended not doing the swap, but youve already ordered the motor. its going to be nothing but a pain in the *** man

True enough. Justsell your car, sell the engine, and buy a used GT. It's not worth the time and headache involved with doing a swap. There's too much to change and it's easy to miss something.

thanks for the replys, yes the motor is already in shipping and the 3.8 has just a few more things to come off before we pull it out. So your saying the mounts will match up perfectly? I probably should have mentioned that a X pipe and full exhast has been ordered also. the motor comes with the wiring harness and computer so would that include the pcm? i guess ill start looking for the speedo. cluster.

100th96cobra: could you tell me what exactly you meant by "a whole bunch of other stuff" if you could mention parts that would be great!

Thanks guys!!

when i got my motor, it already had the motor mounts on it, and the engine fit right in place when i put it in. if your v6 mounts dont work, you can get a set at the local auto store pretty cheap. also, while you have the motor out, ide recomend going to a tubular k-member and tubualar a-arm set up. do it now, while you have the motor out. the wiring harness might have the pcm on it, you will just have to see. one of the "problems" you will have to deal with, is making sure you have all factory grounds in place. there are several of them, and they are all crucial. and also, your car is not an automatic, is it?

there is no way to pull an engine/ecu, without disconecting grounds. your ecu is calibrated for use with the cobra speedo cluster. you could use the gt, but it wont work very well. you can find a used speedo cluster for prob 100 bucks
