Yeah, does any one out there know if I can install a new timing chain cover oil seal (crank to harmonic balance seal) without removing timing cover? I'm leaking oil around the crankshaft seal in it. Just thought there might be a chance that I wouldn't have to remove timing cover to replace.

Thanks for any replies!

You have to pull the balancer. But you can get that seal out. Just becareful not to drop it into the cover. cause it will fall irhgt into your oil pan. And be really careful not damage the cover. Cause when you put the new seal it it would seat right. And that will leak. But there is a tool that you can buy. That reinstalls it seal. If you don't wanna spend the money. Just get something the same diamater as the seal, like a big shockit or something. Then very lightily tape it in.

the older covers you had to remove the whole cover to change the seal because it came out from the back side, you can put the newer cover on ,and wont have to pull the cover off to change seal, they will interchange,,

yes im sure it was the old ,old ones the late 60 ,early 70s, they have no dowel pin holes to aline the ft. cover to the block, they were hard to line up ,you had to put the cover on loose than put the balaner on than move cover around untill the seal lined up with the balancer.it was a real bitch ,i got one from the junk yard didnt know it the time but it on in it leaked.took back off and threw it at the ground as hard as a could,i was pissed man ,i bought a brand new one, dont ever try to use one of them,it will ruin your weekend.
