Not sure if you want a newer body/mustang...
but you might want to look into "Fox Bodies"
like a 1990-1993 or so.

you can get one for much less then 10k and put PLENTY into it including mods both exterior(paint, wheels tires etc) and interior(engine and inside car)
and have a quick car.

and still have money left over.

not sure what your goals are tho.

I will probably get HATED on for this next comment but...
I would go with a 99-04.... or a Fox Body
I would go with the 94-98 Non PI mustangs etc.

i found a nice, silver 99 gt convertible.. it only had around 60k miles. the ONLY problem with it was one of the widows didn't work.. i think you could have fixed that for less than $300.

anyway, it was priced (off craigslist) at $9.5k. If you add the $300, it would still be under 10k.

I would of gotten that car, but I decided on a blue one (liked the color) for 11k. but yeah..

i'm sure you'll be told to get an earlier cobra.. which is also a good choice. Good Luck!

and don't settle for a car with lots of miles or abused.. make sure you get something that'll last.

You might be able to get a 96-98 Cobra, and im sure you could find some 99+ GTs for 10grand. My mustang has 135,000miles on it and runs perfect, depends on how its been treated tho.

older cobra? like 94-98 or 93 and earlier? i dont particurlarly like the 93 and earlier mustangs but if i can get one that runs good and doesnt have a ton of miles ide settle for it. are the mods easy to get for 93 and ealier? and are they all around the same price as the mods for the newer mustangs or are they more?

mods are cheaper for 5.0s then the new mustangs, not sure if they respond better tho.

You can get pretty much any GT older than 98 or a fox for well under 10k. A cobra like 96, or 98 would be around 10k. I personally would go w/ a SN95 and then mod it to hell w/ the left over money. That would get you started and a decently quick car for 10k. I you just want a faster car stock an will mod it later, you may want to go w/ a 4v cobra.

The engines can be dependable over 100k on the clock but it all has to do w/ maitainence. If it was maintained good then it will run good but a half *** rebuild or bad maintainance could spell trouble for ANY engine. I have personal experience w/ that. Get a mechanic to check out the engine and get the owner to WRITE down ALL of the mods and maintanence that he has done or done to the car. WRITE IT DOWN!!! THat way you can tell us and as you learn more about the car, you will know what is done. Again, speaking from experience.

Good Luck!!!

It really all depends on what you want to do with the car. Get the one you like the best.

But any 87-93 GT is gonna be a good bet, especially if you have around 10K. You can either spend that whole amount on a very nice one, or spend a bit less on a good one, and spend the rest on messing with it. Either way, you could have alot of fun, and im pretty sure you can find either example for about the price i mentioned.

94-98

If you go 94-95, you'll probably pay about the same as you would for a 96-98, just cause most people will be asking more for the older ones cause they still have the 5.0's (its still possible to negotiate though, of course)
If you look into a 96-98 with low mileage, you should be able to find what you are looking for. Just dont be in a rush to puchase something. A 96-98 starts off in the negative performance wise compared to the others mentioned, but it's gonna cost less than a 99-04 MUCH less. But parts are a bit more $$ than a 5.0

99-04
You can find a good mileage 99-00 for a tad under 10K. Same thing, you just have to know where to look, and be willing to be patient. I found my 99GT a year ago with 49K and in VERY GOOD condition, for 9500.

Good luck, and let us konw whats up.
