7000 RPM
I just bought race cams for my D46 heads and all the accessories (springs retainers and the like) and the cams have a 2500-7000 rpm range. is everything ok to spin the motor to 7000 rpm. i know i need a tune to reset the rev limiter but is that all?

RE: 7000 RPM
Should be, I know people with stock bottom ends spinning to 7000 RPMs. With boost, or under serious load it might be a different story (like top of 5th gear because of wind). I'd prefer to know that the bottom end is perfectly balanced as well and I'd use really good oil, perhaps with an aftermarket oil cooler.

RE: 7000 RPM
These cams are ****in huge. i wonder if ill be able to get enought air into the heads. they have a 242/242 durationthe engine is getting rebuilt when everything goes on. new main bearing, rod bearings and piston rings.

RE: 7000 RPM
i have seen it done but i have also seen them through rods if i where you i would go aheand and toss a set of hbeam rods and forged pistons in there then it will hold it no problem.

RE: 7000 RPM
I agree with timmy. That's some high rpms. Since you will be working on the motor you might as well throw some new pistons and rods in.

RE: 7000 RPM
i already have a set. sorry about not saying that in the first place. i just gotta get some new pistons. the ones i have have a dish in them and i want some flat top ones
|
RE: 7000 RPM
Isn't the dish there to lower compression? I'm guessing you want a higher compression because you are keeping it N/A?
|
RE: 7000 RPM
well with good rods and pistons and if it is put to geather right then you won't have any probems with 7k.

RE: 7000 RPM
I read in several forums that spinnig one that much alot, you need to change the oil pump gears to the billet ones.
