anti-theft system

Default anti-theft system

how do i know if i have a anti-theft system on my 96 mustang v8? because when i bought it didnt come with a key pad or transmitter in the key.

I think you should have a light that flashes "theft" in your dashboard.

ok... let's start from the top. the thing I am talking about is not an alarm, it is the factory anti theft system which is composed of a chip inside your key. without the key with a chip in it, your car will not start. I'm pretty sure that any alarm on your car would be aftermarket.

the factory "theft system" is just a blinking light on the dash. to crank the engine you need the key with the chip in it as mentioned before. it's just a passive anti theft deterrent. The system "arms" itself once the key is out of the ignition.
