hey, i have a '96 gt and i love the thing, i just am trying to get some ideas for more horsepower that aint gonna cost over $1000. you see some rice burners around town are way to cocky, i need to show 'em up. any ideas on how i can get some good horsepower and more sound.

A quick way is NOS,but thats not muscle its like steriods for your motor. Or you can start with cold air induction system, exhaust system and a computer chip. That would be a good start.

Go with an exhaust system, pullies, gears, cold air. An entire exhaust system will cost you around $1000 (headers through cat-back kit). If you're looking to do other mods because you can't afford the whole system, just get the cat-back kit. Then add the other stuff.

the one i have came with the 3-inch SVT exaust already, which i think i'll stick with. i have a question about gears though. i was told around here that gears make your car quicker, but you lose top end power, is this true? and if not, which ratios should i go with?

lt doesn't affect power at all. With numerically higher gears, you'll feel more grunt when coming off the line. lt'll improve 1/4 mile and 0-60 times. But you'll lose top speed. 3.73 gears are the best all around gears. At 55-65mph, the rpms will be around 3000.

ok, that sounds like an idea. if i perhaps got a mass airflow sensor, what else would i need to get the most out of it. also, what cams are good to buy and how many horses can they give you?

Nitrous isn't like steriods. It's like flexing those muscles when you need 'em.



A bigger boom is a bigger boom, which is what this guy's after.



A cold air intake, MAS, bored TB, heads, boost and/or nitrous, gears, clutch and TIRES (gotta hook up somehow) will defiantely have you smiling.



I'd do nitrous and tires if I had 1 grand.

Actually, with lower gears, the engine is at a higer RPM at top speeds, making more power and thus more push against wind resistance. Stock gears prevent the engine from redlining because of wind drag. I've heard again and again that one can basically bury the speedo with gears.
