RE: screech on startup!!!
are you serious??? As a matter of fact it does squeal like that. Usually in a few bursts... so would cleaning the moving parts on the starter buy me some time? I can't afford one right now, still turns the engine great. I figure I'd just clean where the starter gear slides for the time being and put some grease on it.
Thanks! Now I dont' have to worry too bad about something really gay going out.... from what you are saying it is my starter..
take care

oh ok... what i've noticed is the cold weather brought it out. I figure I'll wait until it starts getting worse and then invest in a starter, considering the pita to get out.

well I just put my stang up in the air here at work (had some free time) and It appears as if the H pipe has to come out to get the starter out??? If that's the case I am gonna live with the noise until I drop the tranny... I'm gonna pull the H pipe and trans out and the starter has to come out then.
so does the H pipe have to come out to get it out? I thought I could just yank the starter and clean it up and right now it look slike an hour project instead of 10 mins.
stupid noise.
Well i guess i'll rinse off the beast and get some of the salt off it. lol

I'm not familiar with the starters on the 4.6, but I assume that they have selenoids like most. If that selenoid is going and finally gives out, you could end up with a running motor and an engaged starter. I would get it fixed asap before your flywheel gets potentially damaged.
Am I way off the mark here, guys?
