Coolant temp sensor... i need a resistor to tell it it is 60deg out side
basicaly read the title... i need to type alot so i could get some people in here. well after talking to my Autoshop Teacher (ASE Master Tech)about my swap and that i either have to get a tune right away or break in the motor at 18:1 A/F. he said that i should just put a resistor in the ECT(Engine coolant temp) to fatten up the A/F so its not so bad and i wont have to worry about over heating and melting a piston or what ever. he told me to go get some resistors that match up on the chart that i have. i figure that i will get a 3000 Ohm resistor for start up and to warm up the engine then after its warm. switch to a 940 Ohm resistor. but now we are on winter brake and i cant ask him so ill ask you guys... what watt resistor do i need? i went to radio shack and bought a 3.3K Ohm resistor and a 5 pack of 470 Ohms resistor and they are at 1/4 watt is that enuf? i have a 96 so there is two ECTs one for the gauge and one for the PMC i pluged in the 470 Ohm resistor to one then the other ECTs and turn the key to run position to see which senser is the gauge and the qauge never moved.
Here is the chart i have for the Engine Colant Temp and the Intake Air Temp sensors. for a 96
Temerature ------------------Volts------------------Ohms
14-------------------------------4.4------------------9200
68-------------------------------3.5------------------2500
122-----------------------------2.2------------------- 800
194-----------------------------0.9--------------------200
so i figure that i will set the warm up part at 3.3k Ohms and be at about 46 Deg. and normal temp at about 940 Ohms so about 100 Deg
why wont the gauge move? i have tried both and i cant figure out why.
