rough idle and struggling startup

RE: rough idle and struggling startup
this smoke I would think is white, and as such this is fine. I have a 97 gt that when i sit at red lights i see little plumes of white steam in the mirror (from tail pipes), wh ich means my engine is running good and the emissions control is turning most of my exhaust into water.
Now for your rough running troubles I'd suggest inspecting your mass air flow sensor. See if it's dirty or damaged. You can clean the sensor itself with little shots of electrical cleaner (spray can) or brake cleaner (they both evaporate quick)
This type of problem happened a lot on older ford explorers and cleaning the MAF solved it. I've also heard this remedy mentioned on this forum a few times.

My 97 has 100k on it right now, and when i go to start it, I have to leave the key in the ON position without actually turning it over for about 5-10 seconds or else It takes me a few tries to start her up. I was told that it is something to do with fuel pressure? I know that now, after changing my fuel filter, injectors, plugs/wires, and cleaning the maf element she runs a lot better.

RE: rough idle and struggling startup
for about 2 weeks my car would take about 2 tries to start up after letting it sit for more than like 5-6 hours. after i would drive it i could let it sit for a couple hours and it would start up fine with one try. yesterday after work i went to go out and my car wouldnt start at all. i started the car and before it would completely die i would hold my foot on the gas and it would stay running until i let off the gas and then it would die. i replaced my IAC ( Idle Air Controller) this morning and it started up like it was brand new. the part is about $45-$50. its an easy fix and anyone can do it. i would try that and maybe put in a little dry gas the night before. thats what i did. Good luck and hope you get it starting fine

RE: rough idle and struggling startup
i just bought a new one because it seemed like it would be a pain to clean. plus if the IAC wasnt the problem the guy said i could return it. i think it helped that he had a older fox body stang and we were talking for a bit about mustangs. but anyways if it wasnt the problem i would've gotten my money back.
