There was a post somewhere on this site from a guy who believed that the stock 4.6 makes 270hp not 260 as claimed (i.e., underrated). Any one confirm or disconfirm this?

Very true----the 260 Hp figures from factory are at the flywheel-------scavenging thru the powertrain brings it down to around 240 HP</P>

with a stock GT you're looking at anywhere between 217-235 to the wheels, depending on the tranny and car itself, (condition, factory freak etc...)

Actually very untrue. In a manual transmission you can cut 15% from the crank, &amp; 20% in a manual. Do the math, that means...anything more than 221rwhp for a 99-01 manual gt is good, anything about 208rwhp for an auto is GREAT! For 02-03 the compression ratio was bumped up a bit, so they make a little more hp to the rear, but not enough to blow your sucks off. I'm talkin maybe 5rwhp at most.</P>

A healthy 4.6 5 speed should put between 220/230 RWHP down. Not bad considering the curb weight <img border="0" src=smileys/smiley2.gif border="0">
