Default stupid CAI question

Okay, i've inherited a cai kit for a different a 4.6 liter, but definetly not a stang. part of it will fit nicely part of it is going to need mod'd or made from scratch, the question i have is about the MAF(?) or.. the sensor within the stock intake tube. ive read up and apparently some have screens and stuff, if ours has a screen should it be removed? and where should the sensor be placed?? what does it do? measure what on the incoming air? the temp? or how much is flowing thru? should it be placed closer to the filter or closer to the throttle body? also are there any tubes or hoses ill need to worry about, like for the pcv system or whatever?

Thanks alot for your answers,I do appreciate them! you guys are awesome!

As you can see the stock MAF goes on the same location it was with stock induction kit.yes the MAF is necesary if you dont want to mess up your car...the screen has to be removed and the MAF unscrewed from the factory airbox....
hope this helps...what kit do you have?
