new motors
were is the easy place to purchase a cobra engine for my mustang. i have a 98 gt with almost 100,000 miles on it and i figured it would be best to get a new motor and mod it rather than build and older smaller motor. so does anyone know of any places online to look that has good prices or any ideas on a new motor for my car

an 03/04 cobra motor is going to cost some major green. you can get a 99-01 cobra motor for cheaper, but still not worth the money. you should look into a 99+ 4.6 or a 5.4. someone on this forum i think is selling their 5.4. a 4.6 with low miles can be had for a few hundred bucks from what i've seen on ebay and the classifieds on other stang sites. 5.4's for under a grand.

got my saleen 4.6 with blower for 2500$ and it came with just about everything. had 17k miles i was told, looked about right. thing with it was i got shanked on shipping, and i still needed some stuff for the blower. id get the 99+ 4.6 if you are tight for cash, i doubt youd pay more than 1500$ for a slightly used one.

Get a built short block from a trusted engine builder like DSS Racing or Coast HP and put your heads and stuff on it or get them reworked. You can get one for like 2500 with forged rods and pistons but a cast crank. It will still work great for forced induction.

RE: new motors
what about putting an sn95 4.6 cobra motor thats 305hp into a 96gt? would it be worth it? my 96gt also has just over 100k mi and i didnt want to dive into engine mods with that many miles. how much do you think one of those would cost with low miles? would that be a good choice for turbo/supercharging later on or would it be more cost efficient to use an 03/04 cobra motor. money comes in slow so id like to get the cheaper but more cost efficient motor to use forced induction on.

RE: new motors
yeah dont get me wrong im not underestimating it, but going FI isnt "taking care" of it. its like the 70% rule of thumb or whatever. make your goal hp 70% of what it can handle so it will be reliable. i was looking for 300 whp when i was thinkin about na but if i could probably get a beefier motor for the same price and hp with ability to handle FI then thats what i want and 300whp on a sn95 4.6 is a chunk of money away from 300whp plus you get into reliability factor.
i came to the idea of the sn95 cobra 4.6 motor because its rated at 305hp and can handle power while also being somewhat older thus cheaper.
