Whats the rear wheel HP of the 96 cobra? I am guessing around 244 with a 20% loss through the drivetrain. And while were at it , anyone know the hp of the Cherokee srt8? it reminds me of the typhoons and the cyclones they made with the buick grand national power plant. They were hot.

97stanger, No Cobra has a suspension that would make a difference vs a GT. The 94-98 Cobra has a solid axle just like the GT otherwise it only has stiffer springs which won't help either.

The 99+ Cobra has IRS which makes launching a pain in the ***.

As for Mach1 vs Cobra with the exception of the 2000 Cobra R and 03/04 the Mach will kill a early DOHC. They put more power to the wheels and the solid axle with 3.55's surpasses the IRS by quite a margin.

I forgot about the mach having the live axle and the gears. Honestly, I'd rather have the mach than a cobra any day unless it was a 00 cobra R or the 03/04 cobra.

I never heard they recalled the 99-01 Cobras, but I did hear if you bought a new 99-01 Cobra you could get it specially tuned for free, this was awhile ago, and I thought that helped free up some HP. I did think it was common knowledge that they quit making the Cobras for a few years because they weren't putting out the HP that everyone wanted and expected from a Cobra.

I don't think there was an actual recall.

My buddy bought one new and he only got a card in the mail stating that a Ford service department needed to see his car.

there's been a few recalls, but doesn't look like it was for that power issue. the power thing wasn't a recall:

A guy down the street from me has a Syclone, it's pretty quick.

He could easily keep up with my Camaro SS from a dig but from a roll it wasn't very impressive. They are kind of like STi's and EVO's they rely on AWD for a super fast 60ft and 1/8.
