de-pressurize fuel system.

de-pressurize fuel system.
I read the haynes manual and they told me to just unplug the inertia switch in the trunk and run the engine until it dies. Then the fuel lines are de-pressurized. I unhooked the fuel filter so fuel sprayed everywhere. So Haynes F*ucked up.
Whats the proper way to de-pressurize the fuel lines?

RE: de-pressurize fuel system.
You can also take off the cap (as said) start car then pull the fuse/relay for the fuel pump to run the gas out of the fuel lines. Ive done it that way several times and never had a problem. You will still get some fuel out of the lines, but not much.

I took out the gas cap and let it sit like that for a few minutes. Then I put a rag under the fuel line at the fuel rail and dissconnected it. I am amazed it only trickeled out, no spray at all. So Its all unhooked, thanks.

You are supposed to pull the fuse for the fuel pump and start the car or use a fuel pressure tester and hook it to the shrader valve if the car has one (they stopped putting the schrader valves on mustangs in Sept. 2002) and let the gas out of the secondary hose on the tester. I just put a rag over it and let it go. I don't think opening the tank will work because there's a one way valve just after the fuel pump in the tank. I'm supprised it didn't work when you pulled the inertia switch and started the car though.
