I don't know why people say that. Not even close to being true.

Have any #'s to back that up? I've yet to see any.

Hell, you don't need #'s. Just look at the stock headers on a Fox, common sense will tell you a nice set of equal shorties will improve flow. Improved flow=increased performance.

ET's drop by 1 to 1.5 tents and dynos's show 10-15 with long tubes, the stockers are not that bad. Take a look original manifolds fromthe 60's and 70's , they are bad, thats why you can gain half t 3/4 secconds with headers on old cars

I didn't notice this was on a 4.6 section of the forum. I dunno much about the stock headers on those. All I can say in on a stock Fox they are utterly crimped, and putting on a set of aftermarket equal shorties will increase performance.

If I'm not wrong I believe you loose some low end torque... Which you barely use anyway. So bye low end torque hello powere everywhere else!

The shorties will give you power way up top, and will drop the low end torque. The long tube ones will do exactly the opposite. Long tubes are better for street usage. The reason for this is that long slim tubes will increasethe velocity of the gas. The only real downfall of the design is that at higher RPM they will run out of flow causing your power to fall off. The shorties wont have the velocity untill higher RPM. In retun though, they dont kill top end like the shorties do. On built engines a stroker will want long tubes and a destroked engine will want shorties. It is just a question of where do you want your powerband to be.

??? What do you think gets you out of the hole? Top end torque?!?! Low end torque is your freind.

The whole "you loose torque" is simply not true. It may be moved up a few hundred rpm but you don't loose any. There may be a few incidents where that has happened but it's difinatly not the rule. If you were running 2.5" zoomies or somthing like that maybe, but not with the small tubes that are availabel for 4.6's
