Running a 98, you will probaly never actually catch him, espicially with an auto tranny. I would re-suggest selling the car and getting a 99gt 5spd or 96-98cobra, or getting something else. But you could always add some NOS, and that might help, but you would still need a lot of mods to be able to hold about 100-150shot easily repeatable.
Also, just consider that he is driving a DSM. Without doing a 6bolt swap, he will eventually get crank-walk. Something you will never have to worry about.

i'd keep the auto if you plan on building that thing up. shifting is such a pain when you start getting high in HP. change get a new high stall torque converter for it. you can get 400RWHP easily with a vortech with full boltons, not to meantion a lovely matching torque number.
