Whats the maximum HP I would be able to obtain from a SOHC 4.6 ?
I was thinking about doing some work to my car, I was wondering what would be a resonable number that the engine could put out without having to change fuels or anything crazy. My friend has a 450 HP Turbo Eclipse and I'm tired of him kicking my ***. I want to make sure that he gets his *** handed to him. I know about the normal bolt ons, and nitrous, I was thinking of either a turbo or a supercharger, what would guys recomend for a build up. Also I'm changing my auto tranny to a manual, what would be the best tranny to use that would take alot of abuse ?

its going to cost u a lot. Consider selling it and looking for a manual instead of going through the trouble of putting a new tranny in.
But 425-450 RWHP is about how much the sohc 4.6 can hold. But even if you have 450 hp that turbo eclipse may beat you. Probably not from a dig but from a roll its possible.

I was thinking about selling it, but when I got it from the previous owner it turned into a money pit, I've put about $3000 worth of repairs into it over a period of 2 years, now it runs great. I dont want to buy another GT with a plastic intake or have more things go wrong with it. As far as the cost, I know someone that can do the work, I just need the parts. I'm going to do the head swap too, and get a new cam, I just need to find out what setup I would need

You are going to need more than one cam....
Unfortunately, without spending a lot of money for forged internals, you are not going to get anywhere near 450RWHP and still have a car that has a running motor.
A forged shortblock will run you over $3,000. A tranny swap will run you over $2,000. A supercharger will run you over $4,000 said and done (properly). Suspension work will run you over $1,000.

Take your beating and be happy. HOWEVER, if this eclipse is a GST (Front wheel drive) then you dont need 450 hp to beat him at the track. If it's a GSX (all wheel drive) then you will need more than 450 hp. If its the GST work on your suspension like a mother. Get the pi swap or p&p your heads. If you can get close to the 300 rwhp mark and can get the power to the ground, you should be in the 12s. What time is he running?

my blower cost me 3500 at the max for it to be completely dont right, but i got a good deal on the blower and injectors. i also did the work myself....
im at the limit of the stock short block, you will need much more done since you will need alot of drivetrain mods to make it go past that hp number.

With being a non-pi GT, its gonna be rough on the engine to be pushin over 400hp. Just get a new car, or buy a new engine to drop in there.

I'll just wait till I get out of college and get a GT-500. Damn it if I had known that I would have sold my damn car before all that crap broke. Oh well 98 GT with no mods it is then. *sigh*
