Is the 4.6L 2v a lost cause?

RE: Is the 4.6L 2v a lost cause?
A lost cause... I don't think so, but you will defintely notice it's popularity and the amount of new parts and overall available aftermarket begin to dwindle. The 3v is flat out superior in almost every way. And why wouldn't it be? Every new design is eventually supersceeded (sp) by customer demand for something better. I have to agree, Ford did a hell of a job on the 3v and it's not going anywhere anytime soon. With the flock of aftermarket manufactur's pouncing on the new market I seriously doubt any of them are focusing on new designs for the old 2v. I think the 2v was more of a sample or test motor for Ford's modular design and now it's getting pushed aside.

no, there is still a market for the 4.6L 2v, people still own the cars do they not, plus consider this, a lot of people do not liek to mod their new car because in some instances it can void the warranty, althought new 2005+ mustang parts are flooding the market, thats just because its a new mustang, they will continue to make more money off the 4.6L 2v parts, part prices might drop even for the 4.6L 2v, btw I am interested in this 3v head swap thing, please post more info on it

No, it's not a lost cause. And eventually they will get easier and cheaper to mod. Look at the 5.0's now. Eventually the part for the 2v 4.6 will be down there with them. Personally, I like making something out of nothing, so I like the 2v 4.6. It's all good in my book, and I would buy another one. But given the choice, I would definetally take a 4v. The 3v is a waste IMO.

It's not a waste. I don't really see the POINT, but that's neither here nor there. Seems like they should have just made the Mach motor the standard issue GT for 2005+. What do we know...we don't work for ford. I'm sure it worked out on paper and in the cash register.

just steal Dan04Cobra's 2004 cobra engine, you'll be much more satisfied than if you bought a 3v motor I promise lol, I also do not see the point of the 3v, shoulda just used to the 4v, the Mach and Cobra people are still ahead of this game so this thread doesnt mean much to them

i'm waiting to see the engine reliablilty on those 3v motors. they're the total hotness when it comes to mods, but i wanna see what high mileage does to them. we've all seen people throw nitrous or superchargers on high mileage 2v motors and everything work just fine.

RE: Is the 4.6L 2v a lost cause?
yeah what gets me is you are no longer directly connected to your throttle body! Drive by wire!! what happens when that goes out..
It is an amazing engine though, and I have heard that the 3v does have higher flow than the 4v in the way it is set up. Not to mention variable valve timing for better efficiency.
I agree, I would like to see how reliable and long lasting the new engine is. My 97 GT has 108k on it and the engine chugs just fine. I've seen many 5.0s do lotsa miles...

I don't think you guys understand the concept of a 3 valve motor. You don't need 4 cams. It's much harder to run 4 cams than 2. The Mach 1 needs premium fuel meaning that it's higher compression than the 3V yet it makes the same HP. If you ran a performence tune with a 3v it would make more HP than the Mach1. The Mach one has a performance tune from the factory. I'm not saying one is better than the other I'm just making a few points. Here's some specs.
Mach1
Engine MOD 4.6L DOHC V8 4V (Aluminum Block)
Displacement 4.6L, 281 cu. in.
Horsepower @ rpm 305 @ 6000
Torque lb.-ft. @ rpm 320 @ 4250
Compression Ratio 10.1:1
Fuel System Sequential multi-port electronic fuel injection
Fuel Requirement Premium (91 octane minimum)
2005 3v
