Is the 4.6L 2v a lost cause?

"It's not even a comparison"
sounds like you're saying the 4v > 3v
edit: if you're saying you'd rather have a mach 1 over an 05 gt, that's different, cause that's an entire car, but the old 4v isn't any better of a motor than a new 3v.

he said he would take it, not that it was better [:'(]

but the 2v isn't dead, it's just that a lot of 4.6 2v motors are still under warranty and being used for daily driving, not heavily modded project cars. give it a few years.

wouldn't the only reason for taking it be that it's a better motor?? I thought that was the point.

No. It would have to be a 03/04 cobra engine. You can't even compare the two. Totally forged engine vs. a little 3v. I don't even care if the car comes with it. I just want the engine. Heck, keep the eaton too. My kenne bell would fit just as well on top. I'm sorry, but are you going to be running 600 RWHP from a stock 3v. I Think not.

this is why the cyl. head airflow is an important point, because in theory, you could get a 3v with forged internals to a higher HP because it can recieve more air (although the forced induction of the cobra makes this less important). it's the same reason the LS1/2 respond so damn well to mods. In other words, you can make an n/a 3v pump more air than a n/a 4v.

RE: Is the 4.6L 2v a lost cause?
i was just reading in MM&FF that the 3v is alot harder to make parts for aftermarket companies.
quote
-The camshaft is controlled electronically through sensors and oil relief valves-further complicating development of performance-enhancing aftermarket parts. The computer advances and retards the camshaft timing. One good thing out of all this is that Ford gave us 300 HP from the factory.
i for some reason love the 2v maybe because I'm use to it since its been my only car I have ever owned and I know it pretty well but I think it would be hard to turn down a 4v.

The 3v heads will fit the block of the 2v, as was stated before, the blocks are the same( with exception to material made with). You'll need more then the heads though. My nieghbor has the 3v heads bolted on his car but the 2v intake is far from fitting and he doesn't want to run the 3v setup, so his project is on hold till he figures out where he is going to go with it. There will be trial and error until it's figured out. I'll keep everyone posted as he goes if any one is interested.
