When i did mine, i just used needle-nose pliers and to pop the 2 pins out that hold the old one in, then popped the new one in. Just be careful not to break the pins cuz you have to reuse them. It was really simple and a little gas is gonna come out, but i didn't de-pressurize mine or anything. I did mine in a my friend's shop afterhours so i didn't have to do it laying on my back on the ground....

Have a couple rags or a cup to catch the gas. There is going to be so little that comes out, it won't be worth your time to pull a fuel line off anywhere and drain the lines.

you can flip the fuel cutoff switch in the trunk (I think the 96's have them), and start your car until it stalls. I believe that is what the ford techs do.
