Yeah.. carfax goes only by what is reported to them or what is made public records.. lots of dealerships and insurance company's are reporting to them now... but if you only have liability insurance and your car gets totaled by something like a flood, you wouldnt report that to your insurance company.. they wont do anything about it.. you could fix it and resell it. its been totaled.. but the title will show 100% clear. When a tree fell on my 89 we never reported it. For fun I checked its carfax about 2 years ago and it still showed a clean title.. even though its sitting in a junk yard completely demolished.
