Default grrrr stupid burnin oil

well I finally witnessed my mustang emitting blue smoke from the tail pipe, and was saddened. Came out of class today, fired it up and for about 10 seconds blue smoke spat out the back.

I have 108k miles on it, and I have heard at around 110-120k the valve seals on the 4.6 V8 take a sh**. well I guess mine crapped early. She runs smooth, strong, and gets good gas milage. (will be doing coimpression test to make sure) but I figure my valve stem seals have gone. The rubber ones.

1997 Mustang GT 5 speed

Has anyone replaced these themselves? I have done some research and if I get a compressor and a special adapter, and a valve spring tool, I can do these without pulling the heads by pumping up the cylinder with compressed air to hold the valves up.

Any input here let me know. This just blows I have a bunch of trans work I was planning (have the parts!) and now this gets added to the list.

That sucks dude, hope you get it taken car of. And when I had my 98 GT it starting burning through a lot of oil. I am assuming because I neglected to change the piston rings time and time again. As for your question, I have no idea. But I hope you get it back on it feet.

Good Luck

hehe thanks. I honestly don't think it's my bottom end. After runnin a few minutes to get warm, it runs so smooth and strong I have a feeling it's just the GD valve seals. Oh well, my luck at any rate.

so I guess the valve guide seals isn't something ya'll have tackled too often. It sounds like most people on this forum deck the crap out of their cylinder heads (PI heads or cams or whatever) before the valve guides have a chance to wear out. My family and I as long as I can remember buy cars with 80k plus miles on them, we don't blow tons of money at cars. But with 108 on the 4.6 it's gonna need some love. I figure I'll replace the seals eventually, and then switch over to the high milage synthetic oil.

well if anyone knows how to do them let me know. If not, I'ma gonna teach myself.
