I am looking to swap in a used engine from a salvage yard or a used 4.6 i can find online for cheap. i was just wondring the compatability and ease of the swap. i have a 2000 4.6 engine code X manual trans. What other 4.6 engines can i put in there with relative ease. Do i have to stick with only mustang engines or can i get it from another model car. the reason i ask is i found a 96 mustang engine and a 2001 crown vic for about half, besides hp issues etc. would either engine fit , or do i have to look harder for an engine that will just " swap" in.

Your not going to want to buy a 96 mustang engine. Its not a pi engine and it would really be a down grade.

Any 4.6 engine Should fit in the car, but it would be easier to just swap one with a compartive year like yours. I say look for a 99-04 gt and swap that motor in. Check ebay, I've seen them on there for cheap from time to time.

He is right, you are going to be disappointed if you downgrade to a 96-98 motor, it's non-pi, meaning less hp.

I still have the 2000 4.6 i can swap out the heads. As i said before Im not worried about h.p i was just curious that everything would bolt up without having to buy new sensors wiring etc.
