Default sohc to dohc?

Hey all, new to the forum so be gentle. First off I drive a 2000 gt. I have been wondering if a conversion from single overhead cam to dual overhead cam is possible and/or practical. essentially somewhat of a gt to cobra motor conversion. If so, what kinda power would i be looking at, what all would be needed to complete the swap, and what kinda price tag i am looking at. Thank you all for your time.

Ive asked this before cuz i thought it would be easy. Everyone basically said it would be too difficult and expenseive. You're better off buying a 4V engine and swapping them.

Well it all depends on what you want to do. IF your into looks you would do exterior mods. If your into performance you would do engine mods.

To start get the car 'breathing' better. take your air silencer off your air box. it is a long rubber snorkle looking thing. get a cat back and if you have the $ a mid pipe of your choice. Then work on the intake. new tb, plenum and a cai if you are staing n/a. = naturally aspirated. then gears, underdrive pulleys and some lowering springs/shocks. those are your basic bolt-ons you can do in your drive way. afterward get a tuner, i.e. sct or diablo or something similar. after, get into the suspension, lower control arms, cc plates, etc.

welcome to the forums!

To switch from SOHC to DOHC would cost way to much money. Just go ahead and buy all the bolt on's. Starting with midpipe, catback, gears, intake, t/b and plenum and then start working on suspension. Have fun.

If you have the money, just swap to a mach1 or marauder engine. It will be a nice jump in power and it will save money in the long run.

all good suggestions, rear gears will help also, 3.73 or 4.10. don't go for the quick speed fix, nitrous. not worth the damage it will do to your engine. just my opinion.
