Default Gears

I talked to a speed shop some time ago about putting new rear gears in my car, a 99 gt. They told me I needed to put new wheel bearing and a bunch of other stuff. Any way they told me it would be about $ 800, is this too much?

Default RE: Gears

your looking at about 350 in parts, and about 450 in labor. for me it was 450 total, 300 in parts then labor was 150 to have the gears installed.
for some areas of the US that is probly about right, but the average seems to be about 500 total for gears with installation

Get a list of the bunch of other stuff. It might be just the gears, and an install kit.
gears ~200, install kit ~100

then you will need an speed cal, or a tuner to fix the speedo. Hopefully the speed cal was included at that price.

Keep checking a few other places, you might find it would be a cheaper to drive a little ways to get it done.

And make sure its get FRPP gears!!!!

It cost me 300 to get mine installed. I think I got my gear for 140 on sale (frpp). Total was 440.

$800 holy **** don't do it. With parts, labor and bearing kit install it was $575 for me. Even to me $575 is a little too much...

I get the stuff I can't do and tunes done at Sutton Ford HP. They are actually a Ford dealer with a HP department just like Anderson Ford Motorsport. Their prices are pretty decent and my car has been tuned there twice and even though it has taken longer than an hour they only charge me for one. Tuning is 300 for the first hour and 100 for every additional hour but I have never paid more than 300.

Yeah sounds like they are trying to rip you a new one. I got quoted 525 without gears and without the install kit. The install kit is about 70-80 and the geasr were 44 used. That price that I got is still a rip off. A big one.

gears and install kit cost me around 300, then another 300 for install of gears ( i need a garage). there is only two places in town that will tune cars and both want 500 for first hour, then 150 after that. Still looking.....
