Default At what point do you tune?

At what point will my stang benefit from getting a tune? I have 02 GT 5sp, CAI, catted x and bassani cat backs. Is it time to tune or should i wait to do more stuff? am i wasting my money by getting a tuner with the current short list of mods? Also, how do i know what to tune to?

Thanks

get it now, a tuner can help you even if your car is stock but they do reccomend you have at least a cai.

I think when to tune really depends on your plans. if you plan on getting headers and a tb/plenum at some point, I'd wait for those before getting a dyno tune.

Like redass02GT said wait untill you have your plans set up. If you plan on doing headers then wait untill you have that done. I planned on doing my tune after I have all my bolt ons, gears, exhaust and stuff. I have everything now so probably around summer tiem i'll have it done!

Assuming it's done correctly...

Once again, to add to all the other threads on tuners. If you purchase the tuner from a well known vendor such as Modular Powerhouse or Modular Depot, they have VERY knowledgeable guys that include their custom tunes with the tuner for you. This would most likely be your best option, regardless if you want it dyno'd or not.

if you are talking about a handheld tuner thats like 300 bucks, then yes, go ahead and get it. it will give you increase in power now and allow your dyno shop to use the handheld tuner's port to tune it themselves later on. when to get a dyno tune would be when you are done with your mods or have put a good bit on. or if you do a pi swap or some other major swap like cams, etc...

I honestly don't think a tune from a handheld is gonna do much of anything to a 99-04 stang (5spd)

If you are totally stock, it might help 5-10 RWHP (I doubt it). If its not, the generic tune is not gonna be setup for your car. And telling them what you have done doesnt help either. I tried to get a diablo over the internet tune that way, and I ended up with a A/F ratio of 15:1 !!

On the orignial topic, I don't see much point in getting a custom tune until you either install headers, do some sort of engine work, or are done modding the car. With the orginal poster's current mods I don't think a tune is gonna do a whole lot of good.
