I was reading that there is a cooling problem on the 4.6 heads, causing 7 & 8 to over heat. It's a flow problem and can be resolved but they said you have to pull the trans to do it. I would post the link but it's on another board and I don't think that would be to cool.

There's a problem with the heads, so you need to pull the transmission? Stop to think about it for a second. The heads can be pulled without removing the engine.
I haven't heard of this problem, and 7 & 8 are usually not trouble cylinders... You would have to be running your stang real hard all day to have a problem with it I would think.

so the difference between 2 valve and 4 valve basically means Single Overhead Cam and Dual Overhead Cam right? Why not put DOHC in the GT's as well those years?

Here is a link that expliains the cooling mod. No I was not talking about removing the heads.

I have talked with Ed about this very thing. I have reason to believe that this very issue caused me to break the #8 plug and damage the piston in my new forged motor in Nov or Dec. Whether I get the Apten kit when they get it done, or we engineer something ourselves, I will more than likely do something about this.

Here is the link where I first learned about it.
