Hey guys, I've got a question. I'm used to having my car serviced and have it oil changed at 3,000 miles or 3 months, but I just got a brand new stang and the dealership says the first oil change is at 5,000 miles. Also, the manual says an oil change is at every 5,000 miles.... is this right? or should I still get it changed at 3,000????????????????????????????????????????

Id stick to changing the oil at 3,000 miles...the manuel doesnt compensate for beating on the motor...

It's never a bad idea to do the first oil change early on a new car, maybe around 1K or so.</P>


It's really what makes you sleep better at night. If you drive lots of short distances, that would make you want to lean toward more frequent changes. Why not spilt the difference and go 4K?</P>


Also, consider using synthetic oil.</P>

well, the dealership is giving me the first 3 oil changes for free, but I don't want to wait til 5,000 , 10,000 , etc.</P>


maybe i'll get it at 2,500 , get the free one at 5,000, then at 7,500, get the 2nd free one at 10,000.</P>


does it hurt if you get it too often? i'll rather do it that way then have to wait 5, 10, then 15.</P>

nah it won't hurt if you do it before 3k each... i used to change my first cars oil every 1500...and I never had a problem with it.

go to synthetic and change it at 5000. makes me sleep easier with less time spent on changing the oil.

I agree with the fellas in here. It won't hurt to do it early a few times while it's still new and being broken in. After that though, I'd start running some synthetic, and then, yeah, you will have more piece of mind in letting the oil run 5000 miles. The Amsoil XL7500 5-20 synthetic I use is supposed to run 7500 miles, but I usually change it in the neighborhood of 4000-4500 mile intervals. No way would I do that on petroleum.

thanks guys, but I am so confused now. I usually take my old car to Walmart to get the oil changed every 3,000 miles and it only cost $18.99 but my b/f takes his car to QuikLube every 3 months or so and SYNTHETIC costs like $65.</P>


Does synthetic really cost that MUCH? To me $65 is ridiculous to spend every 3 months or so for an oil change.</P>

buy your bf a jack and tell him to do your oil changes (and his)! its a lot cheaper if u just buy the synthetic yourself.
