well i cant find any shops in the solano area to do my gears for less than $700, they say things like if you bring you own gears there is no warranty, which means if they install them wrong i am screwd, they will install them for $300 but they will do all the bearing and BS for $700 I guess that what i have to pay around here....and that was the lowest..... I see everyone else talking about $300-400 for the job and it makes me mad

That really blows dude. I guess the whole state of Cali is just ghey. I got my bearing kit, gears, oil, speedo gear, and install all done for about $550ish

EDIT: If it makes you feel better, the lowest labor I have found around heer from a speed shop is $73/hr. I wanna get my subframes installed, but I'm not paying more for the install than I did for the subframe connectors[:@]

Man that's RIDICULOUS.

Sounds like it's time to buy a manual and a dial indicator and get to work on installing your gears. I got my gears installed by a shop that builds race cars for $150, installing the gears, bearings & their own oil.

Wow, that sucks man. Sorry to hear that for you. I thought I had it bad when everyone was saying when I paid $375 for install only was expensive.

i have talked to people in sacramento but thats like a 45 min drive for me, they will do the gears but nothing else for $575, still seems like a rip off, he said it will take about 3-4 hours, so hummmm, i can get gears for $200 and there cost must be $100-150, so the rest is labor.... thats like $125 a hour, bend over californians, i have tried to do rear gears when i was younger and stupid, and there was a vibration in the rear for the longest time, untill they blew up...but i was 17 and drove a 1983 mustang with a 4 banger with turbo, and i also rigged the wastegate shut, it was very fast for awhile untill I blew a head gasket.....live and learn, those where days before the internet and you made big mistakes

Do you have a 1/4 track around you? You should stop down and ask where to get them installed or if they will do the install for you. 95% of those guys love turning wrenches and never say no to working on another V8.

Also do you know of any shops around you that build race cars? There's 4-5 in my area and that's how I get my installs done so cheap. They aren't an actual shop, just a bunch of guys who turn wrenches on 50-60,000 dollar race cars. I trust them more than any mechanic...

well sears point raceway is about 20 min away, well now its called infinon or something, but thats not a bad idea...but it will also take alot more time to find someone bored....and still people in california are way more rude and worried about getting sued so i dont think i will have much luck

it's the area you live in. that area isn't exactly a hot rod hotbed. mostly big 4x4's in norcal. TONS of performance shops in socal.

Im in norcal (san jose) so I know what you mean. I wanted 8 inch rally stripes done and the guy wanted 700 for it. my friend got his whole camaro done for that price. california is a rip off. Thats why I only do "do it yourself" modifications. Ill have to live without the gears.
