Default 1998 GT top speed

Does anybody know what the governor limited top speed of a 1998 4.6L V8 GT is and can you over rider it or get ride of the governor by using a chip?

Eh, it's up there like at 150 or so.. Why would you want to remove it, there is never a need to get up that high.

my 97 has gone 120 before (almost stock) and that's more than enough for me. My suggestion for anyone who wants to go that fast, upgrade the brakes. At least get slotted rotors and premium pads, so you get less brake fade.

My buddy hit 148 in 96 GT Convertible.

Although, it took him a loooooong time to get there. I always thought he was a little insane for even trying it and sticking with it that long to get there...but I guess that's another topic. [&:]

it's not worth it IMO. If you want raw speed like that go buy a BMW or something, something built for the autobahn. These mustangs are all about the acceleration and cruising, I love it but I don't think it's for that much speed.

Not to mention, what if you had to stop from 148 quickly? You're F'ed.

Like I said, I always thought he was a little insane for doing it.

I've only hit 125 in my own GT, and that's enough for now without brakes and better suspension. Even though it felt absolutely secure and stable. But then again, it wouldn't take much to change that...

I don't know for sure about the sn95's but my 03 stock automatic, I had the speedo buried so slightly over 150, but had to let off, it gets awful scary when your going that fast, nevermind the ticket I could have got and the insane risk
