I shift when I feel the car not pulling in the gear anymore haha, which is normally just before redline...

The reason your auto shifts at 5500 is because the computer tune tells it to... has nothing to do with anything else... you can fix that with a SCT or Diablo and change the shift points....

you want to shift about 400 to 500 rpm past the peak that way you will stay more in the peak range.

My 96 starts loosing power after 5,500rpm. I shift at 5,600rpm when I'm getting on it and it goes pretty good...

I actually shift between 5K and 5100 rpms. After that the power band falls flat on its face w/ a non-PI engine.

exactly... most of these engines are tuned for good low/mid torque, where daily driving occurs. That's why they pull so hard at around 3000 rpm. I have a 97 GT and I **** at about 5000 rpm (racing). It makes the max torque (stock) of around 285 ft/lbs at around 3000 rpm, and the max hp at about 5500 rpm (215 stock) so right in between those is a sweet spot (I think) so I shift around 5000 and get a nice kick in my pants, but it's taking it's toll on my clutch! Stock one is slippin more and more every time I rail on it. Got a ford racing clutch in my room just waiting to go in! In about one month it will go under the knife.
