Default Time for the 5.4 swap!!!!

Well I found a guy with a 5.4 with 12,000miles on it for $1,200 so I think I'm going to do it!!! I will take my pi heads with my cam off my 4.6 and put them on the 5.4 and take the pi heads off the 5.4 and put them on my 4.6 and sell the 4.6. Now I remember someone saying something about being able to use your long tubes on a 5.4 with modfication, what do I have to do? Also I was wondering anyone else who has done this swap (mostly likely Dark_horse) if there are any unforeseen things I should watch out for?

I'm also wondering if anyone knows where to get the adapter for the 4.6 intake manifold?

Wouldn't the LTs fit since you're moving the 4.6 heads over? If they fit the heads now....

Or is it an issue with the steering or something?

darkhorse may know where to get the adapter.

Well from what I understand it has something to do with clearance around the collector.

you will need a tune. in going to talk to Billy @ Modular Speed Worx tomorrow about ordering mine. are you going to use your EGR? that tube will be trouble some for you. when you installe the motor you will need to tilt it back it will be eayser. and befor you install it take the motor down to a machine shop and have then fab a intake manifold. you will not make the power you want with a 4.6 intake with addapters have them fab up one with short runners. that will really help the top end and some cams should be put in befor you installe it. because the driversides valvecover is not comming off after install. i think you can use your LTs with some mods. but DO the cams, porting and intake befor you install it and you will be happy.

dose you 4.6 have cams or are then ported? because if they are not then it is a waist of money haveing to get new head gaskets and bolts. the 4.6 and 5.4s use the same cams and everything

My pi heads are ported and have cams so I will be good there. I emailed vt engines and asked for there opinion on the rest of my set up and I'm just waiting for a response. I'm not sure if the mass air and injectors that I have is going to be big enough. I also have some friends that are pretty handy with the welder so maybe I could convience them to help make me an intake manifold because I really wasn't looking forward to spending $375 on those adaptors.

Yeah I really want to do that but I'm not sure if thats in the budget right now. The crank in the 2003 triton 5.4 is just a cast crank I think? So I would want to replace the entire rotating assembly and thats $2,000 more than I have right now. So that might have to be a later on project.
