Default how do u use gears to your advantage

i have an auto mustang gt and i know it comes with 3:27 gears, i have hypertech prograamer so i can adjust shift points, with those gears, is it better to stay in 1st and 2nd gear longer in the 1/4 mile or make the car shift to the next gear quicker and stay in third gear longer

You need to set shift points based on your peak HP.. about 300-500 RPM past max hp. If your making max at 4900 rpm, set it to shift around 5300 rpm. Thats your optimal point. You wouldnt want to go deep into your RPM range if your on the down slope, and you dont want to shift to early or you can bog a bit in the 1/4.

lower rear end gears help you by getting you in the power band.
