Considering Stage 1 cams by comp or VT as my first somewhat "big" mod, and had a few questions that I could not find the answer to in the Cams sticky

1. Is it "unsafe" to have cams with the stock tune or possibly a "generic" handheld tune? Are there any idling problems you can run into with the factory tune?

2. What kind of gains are to be expected with stage 1's with the stock tune? With a custom dyno tune? With a handheld tune?

3. Any change in MPG?

4. I know it wouldnt be that much HP, but cam the change from the stock cams to stage 1s be felt???

5. Do stage 1s still make that aggressive sound everybody talks about?

I posted a sound clip of VT Stage 1's from a guy I know. With LT's and full exhaust, TB and plenum and MPH custom tune, I think he made 292 rwhp.

What do custon tunes usually run? I would assume it is somewhat based on how many dyno runs they have to do.... I live in a pretty small town and there is only 1 dyno here, and unfortunately they don't do any tuning....

usually around 400-500 dollars depending on how much time on the dyno you are going to need.

Wow. That is a ****load of power with no headwork and stage 1s.

God I wish MPH wasn't like 6 hours away, I want a good tune so freaking bad.
