RPM's/MPH list......
Hey guys......This may sound strange but I was driving home last night in my '02 GT (stock except for Exhaust, K & N filter and air silencer removal) and I noticed a large SUV (looked like a new Explorer or even Expedition....couldn't really tell because his lights were on bright) coming up behind me really fast. I was traveling at 50 mph( 5 mph below the limit) and I guess he didn't like it so when we got to a long straight stretch, he started around. Well, I thought I'd have a little fun and I got on it, but I had a hard time pulling away. My question is: Do you guys think I could have done a better job shifting? Does anyone have any ideas as to what your rpms should be when launching hard at certain mph or what gear to be in at a certain mph? After I hit around 90 I pulled on him pretty decent but I just wondered if he was actually that fast or did I not shift low enough, etc......I was traveling at 50mph and I shifted from 4th to 3rd......Would it have been better to have shifted to 2nd? Sorry about the length but I'm still trying to get used to this car. Also, what's the best rpm's to start out when going from a stop during normal driving and during a hard launch? Any ideas? Thanks!!!!!

So wait, this guy, was trying to pass you by going into the oncoming lane because you were driving too slow and you sped up? If that's the case, you are what I like to call an idiot douche bag... It's retards like you that get people killed and give domestic drivers a bad name.... How about instead of learning how to drive your car like you are Mario Andretti, you start off by learning how to drive like a curteous adult? How about you powershift yourself into a tree?
Oh yea, and when you want to downshift for maximum performance going 50, shifting to 2nd will give you some nice RPM and put you right into your powerband.

It was a 4-lane highway with no traffic dip****........All I asked for was some simple shifting techniques.........NOT A F**KING LECTURE FROM DR PHIL.....What I did was nowhere NEAR as bad as some of the other posts on here......I think you need to ask the right questions before you jump someones ****, ***** grip!!!!!!!!!!

RE: RPM's/MPH list......
Back to the post....just play around with it. You want to be up between 2500 and 3000, IMO, for good power. What are you revving at 50 mph and in 2nd? I think in 3rd I'm like 2700 and you have slightly better gears than me if your stock. 2nd would put you up to 4000 rpm....a little too high if you ask me, especially since you'll have to shift soon after you start to accelerate. I don't know...like I said you have to play around with it.
Also, don't underestimate an SUV....some of them are pretty quick. Remember..you can supercharge nearly anything these days.
