Default 3:73 gear change

I see almost everyone upgrades their ring and pinion gear ratio and I was wondering if most put in a locker or posi rear when they do. I am getting ready to make the change, and on the racetrack my right tire seems to lose traction alot more, as well as on my burn out. If you do how does that affect your traction control, not that I need it but curious.

You're not getting traction because of the hershey syrup under the wheel!<IMG src=smileys/smiley2.gif border="0"></P>

Just kiddin'!</P>

Why go with the 3.73's? Why not 4.10's?</P>

Hey Blacksteed my right tire seriously acts like it has syrup under it at Beaver springs, ever run there? Friday nites are cool, not as busy as Maple Grove, lots more passes.I will get some BFG drag radials.I am going 3:73 because I know I am going to get bored and want to get into the 12's and add nitrous or supercharger. The gear change is pretty expensive so I only want to do it once.

I would do the 3.73 and see if its better, you already have posi. From what I hear its not that big a deal to make a detroit locker out of it... a couple of welds and rear end fluid to fill it back up.<edited><editID>Brian18034</editID><editDate>38020.8822222222</editDate></edited>

No, I never have. I'd like to get to the track after I do some more mods. I see what you mean about the S/C and the 3.73's. I had no idea gear swaps were expensive. About how much if you don't mind me askin?</P>

Also, do you have a speed shop to get the work done?</P>

Blacksteed, you have to come up to Beaver springs on Friday nights. It starts end of March- they open at 5 pm and you can make as many passes as you want till 7 then they have eliminations. We run in street stick it costs $20 against all inspected manual trans cars with a dial in handicap. Its really fun and S stick is mostly mustangs. I have been pricing the gear change and ring and pinion is $125 the kit is $80 and labor is 5-6 hours so its not cheap. Beaver is prob like an hour or hour and half for you but worth it. I heard you go to Maple grove and get 3 passes in 6 hours.
