Default These install prices seem about right to u???

So I have been trying to get the lowest price I could for gears/cams install prices so I did a little bit of calling around. Last year, when I had my 98 GT I took it to get looked at because it was throwing a code. While I was there, I asked the guy about how much gears would run me. He quoted me about $800 (without looking anything up) parts and labor. I then checked around here and noticed that most people were expecting to pay close to $300 for the install alone. So after hearing that, I was starting to fear having to drive out of the small town I live in to get gears installed for a decent price. Also, I was considering going with some cams for my car as well. I check here again to see what most people were paying. Somewhere near $300 bucks seemed to be what the average price was for the install as well. Thinking in my head that my install prices would be far above what everybody else here was having to pay, I thought of these things being somewhat out of reach until I felt like doing some travelling. But after calling a few places, I was able to find a shop that could install gears for $300 (or possibly less he said, depending on how much trouble it causes him), and cams for $400. I know the gears install isnt about right where it should be, but does the price to install some cams (without a tune) seem a little steep to anybody else?

even if they where supplying the parts 800 was way too much he probably didnt' want to mess with it and just quoted a stupid number out so you would leave him alone.

No, I doubt that. He told me he didn't know how much parts were and he didnt want to give me a really low estimate number and then have it turn out to cost quite a bit more than that. The place that will install gears for 300 is the same place that quoted me 800 bucks for installation. So maybe he was way off in his estimate for the parts cost. I am friends good friends with one of the guys who works there and know most of the people there because my entire family takes their cars to him.

Are you going with motive gears??? If so, do they have a good reputation? I am going to buy a diablo tuner + gears + bearing kit for 450 bucks from rpmoutlet unless motive gears have a bad reputation. I know that FRPPs are supposedly the best way to go, but with this kit I would be getting gears + bearing kit for about 50 bucks....

Yea I figured I am going to buy a tuner and gears eventually so I might as well take advantage of the package deal...
