Default 4.10, 3.73, stock: how to tell?

This might be a Noob question. oh well:

Could someone refresh my memory? I bought my car with about 4,000 miles on it. Previous owner had subframe connectors, and I know who had, had a lot of $ to blow, so I am looking at other stuff. I am curious about my gears. WITHOUT opening the rear end, how can I tell what gears are inside? With my Cobra couple years ago I ran into the same problem. What I did back then was count the rotations of the driveshaft vs. the back wheel rotations. Does anyone know how many times each should be? Thanks.

You could do one full spin of the tire (chalk it at the bottom and push the car forward until it is back on the chalked part) and watch how many times your driveshaft moves.... If your tiers are 245/4517, then you the number of times your driveshaft moved is your gear ratio. If you have taller tires you will have to adjust. Also, what RPM are u at going 60???

if you put you girlfriend under the car face up, then make her turn over, look at the rear end, look back at her, poke her butt... your car ill talk and tell you what is done to it.[sm=alcoholic.gif]

3 1/4 turns=3.27
3 3/4=3.73
you get the drift.

Tire size shouldn't have anything to do with it.

Ummm if the tires are taller it will take more rotations of the shaft to turn them right???

I suppose if it is out of the normal range of stock.. If it's 245/45, 275/40, or 315/35, you're ok.
