Okay I'm buying some BFG DR's for the track, but I can't seem to get what I want. This link has the tire I want, but they don't offer a 275/40/17.[] WTF???

okay bfggoodrich's website says a 275/40/17 won't fit on a 8" rim wtf? I thought it would....

It does. I just got mine a few weeks ago and they bulge a little but I think that just makes them even more badass.

Looks are fine, but safety is the most important.

9" rim width is recommended for a 275 tire.

Your altering the wear and handling charachteristics of the tire when you change the flexpoint of the sidewalls. Hence, the bulge.
