Default Mustang Dyno...Accurate?

I was planning on getting my Stang on a dyno for the first time ever before I do anymore modifications. The shop that is nearest to me apparently uses a Mustang dyno.

I think I have read a few times that they aren't very accurate, but I think this is my only option.

1. How accurate are they?

2. Can the innacuracy be compensated?

3. Is it even worth getting dyno'd on?

Here are the shop's prices/charges for tuning/dyno work, what do you guys think?

OT, but $85/hour for labor or repairs and service. Jeezus!!! The dyno rates aren't bad though...

I just did some looking around, and everything I see outside of fan forums states that the Mustang Dyno's are actually more accurate. Every place I've visited so far said that "intertia" or "eddy current" dyno's like the DynoJet atually inflate numbers beyond what they really are.

So which is the case?

Do the Mustang Dyno's read too low, or do the DynoJet type read too high?

I thought Mustang dynos showed larger numbers than other's like a dynojet would show...

I think the mustang dynamometers are the most accurate...Im far from an expert though. Grrr...I wish I could remember all the differences between them. I just know mustang dynos read "lower" than a dynojet.

Default RE: Mustang Dyno...Accurate?

Found another good article on Dynojet and Mustang Dyno accuracy. Here's an excerpt regarding the Dynojet performance:

This particular dyno has no way of simulating vehicle load at speed. In essence, once you get the rollers rolling, it takes no more hp from the car to keep it there. The Mustang Dyno had the ability to artificially load the rollers to simulate car weight at speed, more closely representative of what is take to keep a 3300lb car moving at speed
So I'm assuming that if I take it to this particular shop and have it dyno'd on their Mustang Dyno, that it will give me real world numbers and not incorrect values like I was thinking before...?

correct. But at the same time, if you are doing this just as a base run to compare against future mods it wouldn't matter what dyno you got tuned/tesetd on so long as you did your before and after runs on the same dyno. You should still see the same # gains. But for a more true or "real life" reading, hit the mustang dyno.
