mis-firing question on my cobra

hey, im kind of new to the forum. i drive a 97' cobra and after degreasing my motor today i noticed mis-firing. i removed the plugs at the coilpacks and dried it out, and it ran fine. later this evening i took it out (after sitting for about 4 hours) and it just runs like complete crap. barely any power.

is it something serious? please help me out!!!

i believe on the 97s they still had the exposed spark plugs right? you probably blew a coil pack or something, i'd replace that, unless the 97's still ran distributers, then its that.

on 99+ 4.6's they have covers for the spark plugs and coil packs, which suck when it comes time for a tune-up

When i degrease my engine, and wash it, i wash the rest of my car and take my time, even though the 99+ gts are pretty water proof under the hood.

well i mean, its got covers on the valve covers over the spark plugs. so one of the two coilpacks in the front of the motor is toast?

it cant be anything serious though can it? like internal?

When was the last time you had a tune up? My 96 GT did the same thing a few times before I replaced everything with new Motocraft Platinum Plugs, MSD 8.5mm Superconductors & MSD Blaster Packs. I tell you what the car has never ran smoother ever and have never experienced a mis-fire for over a year...

the CEL is on
Go to some knetchs or some other car parts place and have them run the codes. Or find a friend with a ford handheld tuner and that can do it too...

i will thank you. i notice a knocking like noise at very low RPMs, like if i were to start off in 2nd gear kind of thing. can this be mis-firing? i plan on getting new coilpack, wires and plugs but im deathly afraid that its something internal, idk why though.

its just been a little bit sluggish. ever since i rinsed the motor, its been like 30 degrees out so im not even sure if its had time to dry around the ignition connections. its snowing like crazy outside now.
