Default Question about building an engine

Came across a Ford 460 big block engine, completely bare. I was thinking it'd be an excellent engine to get started on a project car, but I'm not all that experienced with engines at all, but that's why I'm looking into this. I imagine building an engine from a bare block would be a good way to learn about 'em, the block itself is being sold for $25, so that's not a problem. But if I'm going to be serious about this I need to know what I'm getting into, about how much money do you people think it'd cost to dress up and build a bare block? -- I'd hate for it to end up just an engine block sitting in the garage floor for everyone to trip over. Thanks in advance.

-- had this posted originally in the general tech as well, but I wasn't getting results and I feel more at home here in the 4.6L section.

Default RE: Question about building an engine

big block=big money.

if all you are buying is a bare block its gonna cost you you will need a complete rotating assembly and since your doing that go ahead and stroke it out i think you can do a 514 or something. heads and then all the little stuff.

Jegs.com is your freind.

btw 25 bucks for a good buildable block is a great price unless its a chevy 305 then free is too much to pay.

heads
pistons
standard 460 crank shaft
514 stroker kit
