Since the Bullitt intake has been dyno tested many times in MMFF and others and has been proven to add 5+HP to a stock 01 GT, I and most other Bullittheads believe that the bigger (dual 57mm) intake, underdrive pullies, and freer (20%, or so claims Ford) flowing exhaust are good for at least 5 more HP (bringing the total to 270).

As far as using Traction Control goes, my theory is this: Since I was trying to launch so hard and was spinning so badly (my earlier attempts at a finessed start resulted in horrible 60' times.[]) the traction control only kicked in briefly ( I saw the light glow on the dash) and didn't fully intervene because the system thought I was trying to spin the tires on purpose. I know that if you just casually try to spin the tires, the system will kick in in a much more intrusive way...

But when you get right down to it, I'm really not sure why it worked so well other than to say it worked very well twice in a row!...[&:]

im gonna try to do this as nicely as possible, and not come across as confrontational

but, i dont see how a stock GT,, well, bullit, went 13.98 with the TC on... .it just doesnt add up

because if the TC kicked on at all, regardless of how mildly, it still would have caused you to bog badly

i hope you prove me wrong man, like i said, no animosity intended, but i'd like to see a slip or something, cause i imagine your 60' had to have been horrid

That's the thing, computers dont think, they calculate. The computer doesnt know if you are doing a burnout to impress your friends or if you are spinning your tires on ice. If the sensors detect enough wheelspin, the system will engage. However it does let you get away wit a little chirp before engaging, and I dont think it always retards the engine either...

First of all, TC does not always cause you to bog badly. Assuming you have a newer GT with TC you can go outside right now and do a quick test for yourself: Rev your engine to 2000-2500 RPM and simply dump the clutch while flooring it. You'll spin like mad, but the difference is that you'll actually hook up better than doing this stunt with the TC off (watch for the light on the dash to flicker on and off briefly). I've been told that the system allows for some wheelspin when the driver is obviously revving the motor in an attempt to induce wheelspin, and my personal experience jives with this 100%. The way you guys have responded to this makes me believe that none of you have ever tried it, so don't take my word for it, try it yourself!

Now that you realize that TC will allow a generous amount of wheelspin on a "Kamikaze" start, and won't slow you down at all, try the same stunt at your local track and look at your times. I'm not saying that using the TC is The Best Way to launch your GT, however. Many drivers can finesse the car off the line just fine, and won't need to resort to such parlor tricks. But although I am very experienced with 5-speed Mustangs (20+years), I am not experienced at all with hard launches from a dead stop with a late model GT, so this trick helped me immensely!

Anyway, I went and dug up my timeslips to give you a bit more data:

This are my last two runs before resorting to TC. They are typical of my runs not utilizing Traction Control:

60': 2.288
330': 6.300
1/8 : 9.488
1/4 : 14.457@ 99.00mph

60': 2.250
330': 6.165
1/8 : 9.351
1/4 :14.344@ 98.61mph

And these are my two runs utilizing traction control (same day and identical conditions):

60': 2.134
330': 5.941
1/8 : 9.064
1/4 :13.989@ 99.59mph

60': 2.142
330': 6.014
1/8 : 9.169
1/4 : 14.123@ 99.08mph
