I hear 4.10s get really bad gas mileage? Is it true for a daily driver?? and wont the rpms be really high on the freeway??

I will testify that I am an exception. I GAINED 2mpg since I switched to 4.10's on my last 2 tanks of gas. Why? Becuase my 10 mile daily commute never goes over 50mph, most of it is either 35 or 45.. and quite simply... where I used to stay in 3rd and be at or around 2k, I am now using 4th to be slightly lower then that. Where before I was using 4th, I am using 5th and being well below 2 grand. I never beat on my car going down the road and I have had a whopping 4 races in the 2 months I have owned it. And now I use 5th more then double then what I used to due to my RPMS being high enough to actualy use it. For MY type of driving in my location it works great. I have a friend that experienced the same thing in his TA in our town.. he can use 5th and 6th quite a bit more now then before. For highway use you WILL lose a little.. but for small city's where there is no driving over 50 and only a few stop lights you CAN (does not mean that you will) actualy see a gain because you can use your top gear more often on a stick.

Forget the recal, it's 100 bucks. You can get a new speedo gear for you tranny at www.BrothersPerformance.com for about $12 and it does the same thing. I would recomend you go look over at www.mustangtuning.com and get yourself a new bearing kit from Motive too.

You dont have to do anything to the trans. Just need to re-cal your speedo.

exactly people i have an 04 gt and unless im on the interstate doing 80+ i hardly EVER use 5th gear....i dunno bout the 98 and older but for the 99+ i dont think you loose as many mpg as stated... ppl that lose that much are because of the way you drive i mean **** i installed exhaust on my car and was sposed to get more mpg but i used that little thing called the gas pedal ALOT more so actually lost some haha...but dont get 3.73 i had a 99 V6 with 4.10's and ppl thought it was a gt off the line... if you had a standard in the 98 maybe 373 but since it auto man go for the 410's you wont regret it...
