Default Whats up with oil 5w-20, doing first tune up

I am going to buy my oill and filter, The manual says to use 5w-20, are they serious, lol,,,,, I have always run 10w40 in my cars in the winter and 20/50 in my v-8 streetcars in summer,,, does this motor require this thin oil? Would I be better off at least running 10w-30? I can see maybe using this 5/20 now,( winter, its like 15 degrees out), but am I really supposed to run this in the summer to?????
Oh, I don't need help with brands, I am a castrol GTX guy, thats what I like and use, and fram toughgaurd filter

Thats a bit better, at least it's 30, why the hell do they recommend such a light oil though?

Why would you ever consider running such a HEAVY oil?

Light oil will help keep that engine protected during cold start's, it'll also get oil pumping through the engine much quicker than that junk heavy oil you've been using.

I'm confused? You question the weight of the oil, but you don't question the brand?

Ditch the fram its horrible at filtering out crap in your oil. Worst Filter ive encountered besides the cheapo advanced auto parts filter thats even worse.

Well, I have always run 10w40 in the winter ( remember this is my first 4.6 oil change, I have always had chevy small blocks) and 20w50 in the summer. I ended up getting the 5w20 for now, where I don't have much expierience with the aluminum sohc motors, I figured they might recomend it for a reason, right on the bottle of oil it says "meets ford 5w-20 requirements" or something like that. I still went with castrol GTX and a fram filter, I have never had a problem with either and have been using them for years. I also picked up some Lucas fuel system cleaner, new fuel filter, tool to replace filter ect... so tommorow gonna do a tune up, minus sp.plugs, gonna wait till spring to do them. The car just passed 20,000 miles.

the lighter the oil the easier it is for the engine to spin. meaning it can rev higher easier make power easier and all around it just easier on the engine. you have no need for that heavy weight oil. plus its alot easier on the engine apon start up in the winter

Yep, 20w50 is way too heavy for the 4.6. My bikes calls for 10w40, but it revs to 14K rpm. 20w50 is like for bigass working truck motors in phoenix!!!!
