I would still put the stock shifter back in to be safe.

You can swap the shifter in 10 minutes, you should do it anyways to save yourself the headache, it's not up to your mechanic friend to decide if it's going to be covered under warranty or not, it's up to the parts or service manager and/or a representative from the company that sold you the warranty.

There is 4 bolts holding a plate which are all easily removed in a matter of minutes, then as you may know, there are 4 more bolts holding the shifter on, put the car in neutral and break it free without pushing the shifter handle to the left or right too far....

Could be worse. It could have been your motor, I had my 02 GT for 2 or 3 months before piston slap owned me and sent it off for a new shortblock, thank god for warranty otherwise I would have sent it to the junkyard.

Almost definitely the syncro's. They are about a 39 cent parts and costs a fortune to have done. Good thing for the warranty. Definitely put that stock shifter back in.

glad you found it. 1 thing to always remember, if you just changed something, and suddenly you have a problem, it might be related to what you just changed.
ps I may have missed something but syncros will not cause it to jump out of gear.

ORIGINAL: 1nsanegt

just bought an 02 GT about 3 weeks ago, car is falwless.. low miles, women owned non-smoker..

first install was a pro-5.0 shifter..

everything is running great.. car is strong etc etc..

well to night, drving home.. i get up high in rpms in 1st shift 2nd get high in rpms (notice a bad viration on the ****), didnt think anything of it, shift thrid, then 4, 5th.. cruise..

get to a light..

drving normal going through 1st- 2nd, it goes in 2nd for a sec, then pops out.. put it back in.. then go to third.. and so on

next light..

normal driving.. 1st... no second.. keeps poping out.. slight grind while trying to hold it in and realsing clutch.. put back in 1st, and do a hard 1-2 it sticks.. proceed to go throgh gears..

almos home..

1st... 2nd will not go in and stay in.. pops out... goes in 3rd.. goes in 4th.. pops out.. no 4th... and 5th is good..

so now i have no 2nd, nor 4th..

car has 24k on it.. is this something that is popular with these tranny's.. i dont think i have the T-45, i have 365 i think. and i have warrenty on the car.. soo.. anything i should look into b4 i get it replaced?

this sucks.. only had the car 3 weeks
Sounds like the shifter install went bad. Do you have the positive stops adjusted right?? I wouldn't drive it anymore, those grinds are gonna be tearing it up bad.

Adjust the positive stops on the shifter all the way in, so they don't touch at all, and see if it still does it. If it does, the trans is shot.
