magnaflow exaust setup question?

So im on a VERY LIMITED BUDGET!!!!! I just bought my first mustang and it just happens to have a V8!! Well heres my question I know that a catback system gives you hardly any gains just sound and that most of the power if any comes from the mufflers(I want magnaflow). Well the whole catback just costs way to much! So do you recomend just buying the mufflers and having them welded in. Or Could I have a muffler shop make me some 2 1/2 pipe and then have them welded in. Or i could get a mandrel bent catback from jegs which is around 200 and then i could buy the magnaflow mufflers which is another 120 and swap them,so that puts me at 320. But thats a little more than i wanna spend. I also dont plan on doin to much to my car, just full exaust, gears with tunner so i dunno if the mandrel bent will really make a diffrence in power? What do you think?

save a bit more and just get the catback. at 320, you're not far off from a catback anyway. call places, their prices listed online isn't their lowest.

Sounds like you are on a very tight budget, which leads me to ask this question:

Are you planning on performing more modifications? Are you going to be going to the drag strip?

If not, you can save yourself a pretty penny by simply purchasing some mufflers online and having a shop weld them in, you'll get the same sound but no HP increases. But, if you are looking for HP (which a catback won't give you much without a mid-pipe & header setup) then I highly suggest you save your money and buy a catback.

No shop is going to fab you a custom cat-back system for less than $350 bucks unless you bring knee pads & some lube.

Save your money until you can buy a cat-back then.

If you can't wait, you can shop around and find a set of original 40 Flowmasters for 40-50 each and any DECENT shop will weld them in for less than 60 bucks. Of course, you won't see any hp gains and you'll still have the stock, restrictive pipes from the mid-pipe to your mufflers.

how much power would I gain with a catback on a completley stock 99 gt?

2-3hp, if that.

You need to do a full exhaust setup to see any gains really. 90% of the restriction is in your manifolds & cats.

you can get flowmaster knockoffs for like $30/muffler. same exact thing as a flow 40 series. you're just paying for the name.
