Yes, they really ARE that bad.
Unless your running tires with studs/chains, blizzaks, and have sandbags in the trunk...
My car wouldn't go ANYWHERE with even 1/4" of packed snow on the ground with the tires I have. But, if you have the proper setup...you could probably get by.

let me put it this way, for me its like trying to drive a marble on an ice rink. rear wheel drive reall sucks in the snow, i reccomend some blizzaks for the winter. also you gotta drive like an old lady, common sense though. i plan to get a second car for next winter.

Being this late into the winter, I'd try to stick it out, if not buy some winter tires and rims if you have chrome rims. Throw some sand bags in back, and it will handle like a champ. Mine sure does.

Grant it I have regular sized Kuhmo tires, for the stock rims, but if I hear any chance of snow in the forecast or even the day after it has snowed, I won't even take my car out.
Hell, Ive had trouble in the rain, forget the snow, lol. I don't even bother.
My dad drained the pool cover last night, and it was below 0 degrees here in NJ last night. Coming home from work I pulled in my driveway and NO JOKE it took me a good 5 solid minutes to get into my garage. And my driveway is a good 8 feet, if that. The tires kept spinning and spinning and I wasn't going anywhere.
