I'm not much of a top end racer, but my car seems to give out at around 100-110 mph. Is there a governor i can deal with. Or is this because i have 4:10 gears. I need more speed!!!
handheld tuner should bypass that governer

These GTs arent too quick after 100 if theyre stock.
Define not too quick.

I was doing 130 on the NYS Thruway, and I know it couldn't have taken me terribly long to get from 100-130. Main reasons are I wasn't going that fast for that long, and I ended up getting pulled over by a State Trooper once I was slowing down. [sm=smiley21.gif]

woah woah woah... wait a minute.... this girl is talkin all this Mustang tech stuff? Have I died and ended up in heaven? All the girls I know are like "yeah you have a car so what."

so where ya from?? LOL

I dunno about your car... there may be something in the transmission itself that limits the speed... haven't taken a class on them yet but I have heard on some automatics there is a governor built in... I don't think that pertains to Mustangs though

my 97 GT is a 5 speed, I've hit 120 before and it still wanted to go, but the traffic in front of me said no

Yeah, i'm to the point now where i'm thinking it is the 4:10 gears, that's the only thing i know that it could be, maybe slowing the rear end down, but like i said i'm all about bottom end get up and go speed anyway, so no biggy i guess, thanks for all of your help guys

no it's definitely not the gears, its sounds like you have a governor on there. gears wouldn't cause the engine to hit the limiter before red line

Well, many people here don't have a problem going past 110 or whatever it is when they switch out gears.. I know even with my 3.73's that it made the car get up past that much quicker and wasn't slowing down. The gears are actually going to be speeding up the rear end, which is how you get up and go faster.
Did you ever fix the speedo when you swapped out the gears?

no, but i know its not the speedo, my buddy was following me and when my car starting cutting out, i was reading about 115, but he said he was going about 100 right beside me, so i know me speedo is off but i was going about a 100 anyway
