whats so bad about it, people always complain about it, seems like not too bad a tranny to me. Can someone explain why everyone says its a bad transmission?

now this is the one from the earlier years right up to early 01,if so i was wondering the same thing

actually I thought it was used 96-04.

i believe they changed the transmissions through late 01,which with a early 01 got my interest

they changed the 5 speeds, but the autos are the same for 96-04, I believe.

I think it just comes from the factory with a bigtime ***** tune. you can get a tuner and tighten it up quite a bit.

& factory Ford Automatics are known to have a little more hp/tq loss than GM/Chrysler counterparts.

While a tuner will firm up the shifts on a auto tranny I don't reccomend doing this with a hand held tuner. In order get firmer shifts in an auto an increase in line pressure is needed. Hand held tuners do this by making the trans pump run faster, this has been known to burn out the pumps. If you want firmer shifts buy a shift kit, it increases the line pressure but not by running the pump too fast.

hmm, that's something good to know. do you actually know people who have burned out an auto tranny with a hand held tuner? I don't remember anyone on this board ever saying anything about that. ford autos seem to be pretty tough when it comes to handling normal abuse from what i've seen.

my sisters 02 auto has had a tuner for a number of years and has yet to go in the shop since it was new,and without the tuner it shifts like crap
